What is a Notified Body?

A Notified Body is an organization approved by the Member States for its technical competence, independence, impartiality and reliability in carrying out the Conformity Assessment Procedures under the MID directive.

What awaits the manufacturer within the scope of MID?

Measuring Instrument manufacturers must first decide in which module the conformity assessment of their product will be carried out. Modules are Conformity Assessment Procedures and are given in the annexes of the MID directive. MID has provided more than one module option for Conformity Assessment.

Secondly, the manufacturer must choose which organization to apply for conformity assessment. Conformity Assessment must be carried out by a Notified Body.

Products covered by the MID must bear the CE marking. Products covered by the new approach directives must bear CE Marking and Metrological marking.

What are SASTEK MID activities?

SASTEK, which has the necessary technical knowledge, is accredited by TURKAK in ISO 17021, ISO17025 ISO 17065 Standard subjects with its impartiality, independence, reliability and expert staff.

Accredited by TURKAK, SASTEK has also been appointed by the European Commission and has been placed on the NANDO page with the number NB: 2759 number. It provides certification in B, D, F Modules.

Which tests are required under the MID? To prove the compliance of the measuring instruments with the MID requirements, the tests applicable to OIML or European standards are performed.

Type Approval (Module B) Type approval means the procedure for the evaluation and approval of the construction, material quality, and technical characteristics of all major elements of a legal measuring instrument that may affect its measurement function or capabilities.

In order to ensure the stability of the measuring instrument and to protect the rights of both parties involved in the transaction, it is necessary for a legal measuring instrument that tends to drift over time to undergo type approval before undergoing verification.

Which modules other than type approval (Module B) can be taken in order to affix CE and Metrological marking on the product? Module D: Production Quality Assurance Covers the production phase and follows Module B. It includes the process of testing and approval by a notified body.  The process is similar to the production, plant and after-sales service scope of ISO 9000 (former ISO 9002). It requires the establishment of a quality assurance system for the production process. Final product inspection and testing is carried out by the manufacturer.

Module D:  Refers to a specific approval and verification procedure under the Regulation. According to the MID, an independent approval and verification process is required at certain stages of the manufacturing process of measuring instruments. In particular, Module D provides for post-production final checks and tests to be carried out by the manufacturer based on a quality system. This mode allows the manufacturer to check that each unit of the measuring instruments conforms to MID standards using its own internal control system. Once the measuring instruments have successfully passed these checks and tests, they can be placed on the market.

Module D includes checks by the manufacturer through its own quality assurance system established during the design and manufacture of the measuring instrument. This process is usually audited and approved by a Notified Body. The selection of Module D is usually appropriate for situations where measuring instruments are produced in large quantities, as this system is effective in mass production processes.

Module F : Product Verification This module is intended only for the production phase and is usually used in conjunction with Module B. Within the framework of this module, a notified body verifies that the product conforms to the technical documents or to the definitions in the type examination and the CE marking is affixed to the product together with a written certificate of conformity.
