The CE Marking is formed from the initials of the French words “Conformité Européenné”. Its meaning is “Conformity to Europe”.
The CE marking indicates that a product or product group complies with the basic requirements of the European Union on Health, Safety, Environment and Consumer Protection, known as product directives.
Product directives specify what kind of essential requirements a product must meet and/or what level of performance it must have.
Introduced in 1985, the legislation was initially referred to as “EC Mark”, but this term was officially changed to “CE Marking” with the 93/68/EEC directive published in 1993.
It is currently used as CE Marking in all European Union countries.
CE marking is a sign that the product can legally take place in the market where it is sold. CE marking is an indication that the product will be unconditionally withdrawn by the manufacturer in case of any non-conformity.
